The Consequences of a Society Without God

Ever since its founding, the United States of America has been a society based on God, specifically the Judeo-Christian God, and it is the very core and base of what makes this country so unique and great. Many seem to believe that a God-less America is better and there is no need for a God. However, that would have grave consequences on the morality and goodness of America, as well as the essence of “American Exceptionalism.”

First of all, the founders of the United States knew that people were not basically good. Therefore, they knew that people must either be morally accountable to God or the government. Moreover, they decided that society and individuals must have an accountability to God instead of the state because in order to have liberty, the size of the state must be small. After all, the bigger the government, the less individuals control and the more the state controls. Furthermore, once a society secularizes the bigger the government becomes. This is because once God has a less of an influence in an individual’s life; he/she needs the state to fill in to what God no longer does in an individual’s life. This is why Western Europe, which has become largely secular and has moved away from Christianity, has such large governments. A small government and liberty depend on God. The founders knew this and we must understand.

If the significance of God fades, there is no longer any true meaning to life. Since after all, there is no such thing as a heaven or hell where we will be rewarded or punished, so why do anything meaningful in life? This is why there are such small army sizes in Western Europe. If there is no meaning, why fight evil? That is also why there is a low birth rate in secular Western Europe. If there is no meaning in life, why reproduce? In fact, according to studies, there will be as many Germans in the world as Jews in the end of the 21st century.

Rationality also fades from individuals once a society is secular. It is the secular Left, not the right that believes people are basically good, and therefore most evil can be negotiated with. But the fact is that many times evil has no interest in negotiating, instead focusing on destroying people who are good (E.g. Nazi death camps). It is also the secular who believe in the foolish notion that men and women are basically identical, except for body parts; Even though the fact is that they are profoundly different. Furthermore, it is the secular who believed in absurd ideologies such as Marxism, not the religious. We always hear that the religious are the irrational ones, but that is simply not the case.

If there is no higher moral power to tell people what good and evil is, good and evil is just an individual’s opinion. In fact, it is equivalent to an individual’s opinion that if tofu is either delicious or disgusting. One uses his/her heart and reason to tell him/herself what good and evil is, instead of God.

If an individual knows that he/she has a God that will punish him/her if this individual commits evil, this person will be less likely to commit evil and more likely to do good. A God-fearing individual is a morally sound individual.

Secularism has created the mass-murdering ideologies of Fascism, Nazism, and Communism. The religious have created the best country in the history of the world: The United States of America.

Withal, many seem to think that America and the world can survive without a Judeo-Christian God, but that is impossible if they want to have a morally sound world.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” ~Psalm 111:10
