The Antithesis of Americanism

Many people think that the Left and Right of America have the same goals of what America should be like, but have different means of achieving those goals. However, that is not the case. As I have noted in a previous article, we who live in America have a unique system of values, which are inscribed on every American coin. They are to be known as the ‘American Trinity’: “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” “E Pluribus Unum.”  The Republican Party is the only political party that still supports those values. The Left and the Democratic Party, on the other hand, wish to replace all three of those values. Instead of liberty, the Left prefers equality and egalitarianism. Instead of “In God We Trust,” the Left prefers a secular society. And instead of “E Pluribus Unum,” the Left prefers multiculturalism. In other words, the Left would like to see America to be very similar to the countries of Western Europe. If America is just like other countries in the world, then it is no longer exceptional. That is why President Obama, when asked if he believes in American exceptionalism, replied, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.” There is no such thing as American exceptionalism to the Left.

Liberty, which is dependent on a small government, is essential for a good society. The idea that people have to take care of themselves and others produces a better human character. Once the size of the state increases, just like in Western Europe, the less liberty we have and the more we rely on the state to take care of us and our fellow citizens. This is why Americans give much more charity than Western Europeans. However, the Left prefers equality to Liberty. Not equality under the law or as humans, as we Americans believe that all people are created equal. But the Left believes in material and social equality. The Left seeks to control more and more of aspects of Americans’ lives.

A good example of this is in the economy. The idea that people will earn more than others and succeed and fail bothers the Left. This is why the president wants to tax the rich so much. That is also why Massachusetts’s soccer leagues stop keeping scores if one team is leading by too much. This is largely because Leftism is based on emotions. Where no one should have to feel bad about themselves. The Right values prosperity, the Left values equality.

Instead of a society based on God, the Left wants a society with as little God as possible. For God to even be mentioned is beginning to be considered bad. Just like the time when a San Antonio judge declared “one nation under God” unconstitutional, when that same phrase was skipped in the 2013 inauguration, and when the Democratic Party removed God from their convention platform.

The consequences of moral confusion are already starting to reveal in America as well. The sanctity of an unborn human being is beginning to be devalued; where rats have more rights than the human fetus. Where instead of respecting teachers, students are disrespecting and abusing teachers at times. Where a marine is confused whether not killing terrorists is right or wrong. Where the Left wants the world to be nuclear free; thereby implying that America having nuclear weapons is as bad as Iran having nuclear weapons. This is just a small portion of the consequences of a God-less society.

Finally, the Left seeks to replace the genius idea of E Pluribus Unum where race, ethnicity, and blood are irrelevant. The American idea focuses on the individual’s personal abilities and decency. Moreover, no matter where you are from, you are considered an American. The Left wants to replace “From many one” with multiculturalism. Where the nation is seen as being diverse instead of being one American culture. Where special treatment is given to people of color for college admission. Thereby implying that society identifies them foremost by their color.

There is a non-violent civil war in the United States between American values and European values.

The Left divides the world between race, gender, and class. The Right divides the world between the decent and indecent.

Equality is not an American value; it is a European value.  (Liberty and equality are often in conflict.)

Dependence on the government is not an American value; it is a European value.

A big government is not an American value; it is a European value because “the bigger the government the smaller the citizen.”

Spreading liberty around the world to people living in tyranny is an American value, not a European value.

The world depends on a strong America. That is impossible with a big government; people’s character worsens that way.

We Americans need to be able to articulate and teach these unique values of America. If we fail to do that, the best system ever produced to make a good society will be lost. There is a reason more people immigrate to America than any other country. It is not because of big government. It is only because of liberty, In God We Trust, and E Pluribus Unum.
